It is a unique time to be a Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans, Queer and Plus (LGBTQ+) parent in Ontario because we have gained equal legal parenting rights with the All Families Are Equal Act (2016), but continue to experience political backlash. With this SSHRC Insight Development Grant-funded study, we want to know about the everyday experiences of being an LGBTQ+ parent in this confusing political climate and where discrimination or exclusion surface. We are also interested to learn how experiences of inclusion and exclusion influence LGBTQ+ families' wellbeing, as well as parents’ ideas about how to care for and protect their children.
The Precarious Inclusion project created several knowledge products.
- A reel of short (4-6 minute) produced videos, created with parents describing their experiences of exclusion and inclusion in a variety of contexts. These high-quality videos are designed to support training for organizations to provide more inclusive and affirming service to 2SLGBTQ+ families. - A series of infographic 2SLGBTQ+ family inclusion tip sheets for client-facing staff in health care, social services, education, and service industries. These tip sheets can be used when designing your space and services and training staff, and posted on your walls as daily reminders.
