#Overview

Ontario Cancer Statistics 2022is the fourth in a series of reports that provides comprehensive information on the burden of cancer in Ontario. It is produced every 2 years by the Surveillance Program(link is external) of Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario). The report is organized around 4 main types of indicators: incidence, mortality, survival and prevalence.

The information in this report is intended to support decision-makers, the public health community, healthcare providers, researchers and others involved in planning, investigating, measuring and monitoring population-based cancer control efforts, including cancer screening, prevention and treatment. The report may also be useful for the general public who have an interest in cancer.

A special focus chapter in this edition of Ontario Cancer Statistics explores the estimated future prevalence of cancer in Ontario.

This edition of the report includes data from 1984 to 2018 and projections for 2019 to 2034. Since the data in this report pre-date the COVID-19 pandemic, the projected statistics do not account for the pandemic’s effects. More information about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Ontario’s cancer system is available on the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario(link is external) (link is external)website(link is external).

This report also includes statistics about cancer in children (ages 0 to 14), which were provided by the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario. See the spotlights on childhood cancer in Chapter 4 (incidence), Chapter 5 (mortality) and Chapter 6 (survival).
