Every year, the Greenbelt provides $3.2 billion worth of ecosystem services for communities across Southern Ontario. The region has long been a source of economic growth and prosperity, but development pressures are creating challenges for the Greenbelt’s ecosystems to continue being a source of health and well-being for local communities. In the absence of growing investments in Ontario’s Greenbelt to compete with development pressures, ecosystems in the region will soon no longer be able to meet the demand of local populations for water, food, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
Smart Prosperity is proud to launch a first-of-its-kind blueprint tool in Canada to attract necessary investments in Ontario’s Greenbelt using a conservation finance approach. Our publication webinar will include an overview of Smart Prosperity’s conservation finance blueprint tool, as well as a panel discussion around ways to attract new forms of investment for nature-based solutions that are able to build necessary ecological resilience, while also continuing to support economic growth and regional prosperity.
SPI’s Nature Conservation Team is hosting this webinar on December 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please register through Eventbrite.
The webinar will provide participants with the opportunity to learn from the team at the Smart Prosperity Institute that is working to advance innovative conservation finance mechanisms across Southern Ontario.
